Întrerupem seria REM pentru o piesă fascinantă din punctul meu de vedere, o combinaţie de rock profund european (à la Noir Desir, Madrugada and co.) şi influenţe orientale autentice, alături de valurile mării şi sunetul pescăruşilor - care by the way, întotdeauna mi s-a părut sinistru. Destul de sinistră a fost şi soarta trupei Les Negresses Vertes al cărei solist a murit în anul 1993, la 30 de ani neîmpliniţi, în urma unor complicaţii survenite ca urmare a consumului intens de heroină. Piesa de mai jos nu a fost lansată ca single datând chiar din anul morţii solistului Helno. "Face à la mer" nu este un cântec uşor de digerat, în primul rând pentru că beat-ul oriental nu este pe placul multor "iubitori de muzică bună," fiind imediat asociat cu sound-ul muzicii orientale aşa cum, din păcate, am cunoscut-o noi, şi anume corupt. Nu este şi cazul aceste piese care inspiră cu totul altceva: imaginea unei morţi resemnate şi liniştite, pe o plajă, suspendată undeva între minunata Africa şi sudul cel mai sud al Europei. Pe mine, după prima ascultare m-a dus cu gândul la Styx, la Charon şi la sentimentul de teamă care trebuie că există atunci când eşti suspendat între două lumi - şi nu mă refer aici neapărat la moarte.
